We had a mid-week break to celebrate PNG’s independence from Australia! Cars all over town are decorated with huge flags as their owners cruise up and down the handful of roads honking and waving. People are wearing the red, black, and yellow colors of PNG with tiny flags poking out of their hairstyles while games and festivities are popping up all over town.

Some of our teammates threw a not-so-PNG party complete with hamburgers, banana pudding, a large kiddie pool, and water balloon games!! It was a delight. Willa’s wearing the very same swimsuit she wore at this celebration last year, but 2020 hasn’t felt like it existed at all (isn’t it still May?!?). This must be proof-positive. Regardless what month it actually is, we’ll all be sleeping well tonight!!
