Small joys
As we process life right now we’re trying to be intentional about remembering joys and experiencing joys. The friend we lost, Bethaney, had a very special relationship with Gemma and burst out in delighted laughter over this picture. Shortly after it was taken, Gemma disappeared and reappeared with yet another guinea pig in the towel! It was a toddler and beast magic trick.
Gemma adores animals. She was slow, still, and quiet when these little ones were in her arms. She was never slow, still, or quiet when Bethaney was around. She mirrored Bethaney’s laughs and popped with excitement over her very presence in the room. I find so much joy in looking at this picture with all the emotional layers it brings. The character of Gemma it shows, and the memory of Bethaney’s friendship and choice to be a part of shaping Gemma’s character.

What a bittersweet memory to have. You are wise to focus on the joys. As well as remember a person with gratefulness.
May joy well up within you when you hear your children’s laughter.

Hannah, I loved this picture. I have a grown granddaughter who loves animals and this reminded me of her. Thanks for sharing a memory of Bethaney and we continue to pray for all of you.
