Couch acrobatics
Most parents who read aloud to their children know this picture. I’m not sure why, but running and flipping onto the couch as soon as it’s time to “cuddle up” for a story is an unbreakable routine. Actually, cuddling rarely happens. Reading aloud is mostly made up of just heads and legs in odd and unnatural positions encouraging me to relocate to a safer and more distant location.
Perhaps the flow of blood helps them to listen? Or the new perspective ignites all the imaginative parts of their brains?? I don’t know, but it took me a long time to be okay with it, those wiggles while I’m reading. But for all the strange and insane sitting positions this one finds, she can rattle off the details in our story to Daddy or wrestle with tougher questions I thought went over her head. So, sure, go ahead. Be a monkey and I’ll just be over here… waaaay over here… reading and trying to fill up your upside down life with rich stories reflecting Christ’s upside down kingdom.

Stephen’s favorite is to make lego creations during read aloud. Kez is the couch acrobat. 🙂
