Out of a job
Well, it happened. I was working with Ray while Willa was completing her math problems, and the working out of math problems sounded noisier than it needed to be. When I finally pulled myself out of the deep conversation on Manifest Destiny I was having with Ray (a little bit irritated), I saw the source of the noise. Willa was using her worksheets to teach Gemma subtraction. And she was doing a fine job!! She helped Gemma figure out the problem using the manipulatives and then encouraged her to write the number. There were a lot of sweet words, a solid helping of silliness, and gales of belly laughing. When I finally got a chance to check the work, I couldn’t figure out what was what. There were numbers all over the page. However, from what I heard I knew I didn’t really need to check the problems. Willa has her subtraction skills down pat and was spending her time firmly setting it into her brain by passing that knowledge on. It was a beautiful thing to behold.
This is our last week of school!! Ray will complete 3rd grade, Willa 1st grade, and Gemma preschool. Every year at this time I simply cannot wrap my mind around their aging. That aside, we will plunge into Christmas festivities and a good brain break before we pick up the work again at the beginning of the new year, and we’re all pretty excited about that!!
