Glimpses of the move

Perhaps it’s been awhile since you last moved or perhaps it’s fresh on your mind. Transition and global living are such a common part of our world that we undoubtedly have people reading this who are currently moving, have moved recently, or remember vividly their own moves. Moving internationally is something we’ve done before, yet is not something we are “masters” at. We’ve planned well in advance, stayed on top of the packing, and still find ourselves busy as anything just days out (three, to be precise).

One of the things that came up and just had not made it onto the to-do list is “say goodbye to our local restaurant staff.” This particular restaurant and its people have been a part of our lives since Ray was a baby. They’ve watched the girls grow, and saying goodbye was hard. Tomorrow we’ll say goodbye to our village family, the office employees, and have a party with our teammates. Saturday we’ll go to our local beach one last time for Ray to snorkel, and Sunday will be spent resting, being with our teammates, and stuffing those last, last things into a bag. (Side note: We may be heading to Far North Queensland and trading one beach for another, but these beaches are not alike!! Here we can swim freely without concern for stingers, salties, and a million other deadly creatures. Ocean swimming in Australia will be a harder and more dangerous endeavor.)

So enjoy these glimpses of our move and pray for Monday’s flights to be as smooth as they possibly can be. We have lots of prayers on the other side of those flights, but for now? Just pray the flights go and take our massive amounts of school books with them!!

As in all things related to living, change is exhausting. No matter what you think you know lies ahead, you find yourself caught off guard. So rest rest rest and when you come up for air to be hit with all the ‘new’, remember that learning the ‘new’ builds brain cells. Every new grocery store, every new face and name, as well as new driving route is building brain cells.
    Blessings on this new chapter.
